MIAMI, FL —  Internationally renowned Reggaeton Historian and Entrepreneur Katelina “Gata” Eccleston partners with Noise Colectivo for Dimelo Cantando — a thought-provoking podcast featuring some of the biggest tastemakers in the Latin music industry highlighting culture centered conversations. The series brings on Multimedia Creative and El Movimiento Historian Jennifer Mota as co-host, tackling present and historic topics relating to the intersections of race, class, gender in El Movimiento while celebrating the evolution of the culture.

“A podcast project like Dimelo Cantando is unlike anything ever produced in the Latin Music space. We are successfully tackling topics ranging from Cultural Appropriation, , to a wide scope of topics concerning sex and sexual liberation, anti-Blackness, self love, misogynoir, queer identity gender expression and more with the hottest artists who authentically center these themes in their artistry. It’s the opportunity to give the artists their moment to shine and even be educated. The privilege of the project being conducted by two Historians who center Blackness and have the capacity to educate while the subjects are being interviewed, creates for a safe space regarding some of the most difficult topics that affect our community.” - Katelina “Gata” Eccleston

Hosts Gata and Jenny analyze themes o sex, race and love in educational conversations featuring 20+ artists including acts like Tokischa, Dalex, Kiko El Crazy, Villano Antillano, Late Night Jiggy and more. “It’s important for artists who curate and create culture to be at the forefront of conversations centered on the most powerful topics in society. “Social paradigms Race, sex, class and many more topics influence music, and music is programming,” says Gata, whose work focuses on the analysis and social paradigms of Reggaeton, have played a tremendous role in shaping the landscape of Reggaeton in publications such as Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Rollingstone, Tidal and many others. “Artists have a social responsibility to speak on the topics they promote in their music, and it's understandable that they may not understand how to, that's how and where Dimelo Cantando comes into play.”

As culture shifters, independent thinkers and cultural commentators; the two historians have applied their critical views on pop culture, Latin music, politics and society to their work in media — carving a unique space unseen in the industry. As a writer and on-camera host, Jennifer Mota has presented the evolutions of genres like Dominican Dembow and hip-hop writing for Tidal, HIGHSNOBIETY, Rollingstone , The Fader , and Teen Vogue among others. Recognized for writing the first deep dive on Dominican Dembow in 2019, she further expanded through her column “Si Tu Quiere Dembow” on Remezcla.

“This podcast was carefully crafted with love, intention and awareness. As much as we love the music of EL Movimiento, we are also critical. As you should be with things you love? We need to talk about the systemic issues that limit artists. We need to talk about the beauty hierarchy embedded in racism and Latin America’s colonial history that has historically— and is still limiting Black women in music today. We also need to talk about the beauty in our culture and celebrate the pivotal moments that have opened doors and conversations.” - Jennifer Mota

With the goal to decolonize, unpack, and celebrate the movement; the two hosts are no strangers to the hot seat. “We’ve worked as colleagues and have spearheaded many conversations together. Working with Gata is truly an honorable experience,” said Jennifer. “She is the only one doing this work at this level while building an independent brand focused on topics that make the industry uncomfortable is brave and I will always have nothing but admiration for her.”

The esteemed colleagues debate and challenge ideas on the podcast, presenting situations and new ideas that embodies a self-reflective/self-referential comedic tone/lens on the Latin American music industry while simultaneously commemorating the pioneers, tastemakers, producers and new generation of artists. It is an honor to have shared the onboarding, script framing, interview prep, and educational aspects of the project with the pioneering Dembow Historian Jennifer Mota Valdez who has a unique, and niche comprehension of the landscape of music across the diaspora.”

“Dimelo Cantando is unlike anything unseen. In a market that is plagued with exclusion of Black women, and systemic racism Artists for the first time publicly have the opportunity to be vulnerable and educated on some of society’s biggest tropes, discuss them publicly, and hopefully carry this understanding and share it with their millions of followers.”
